Tales from my travels: When we arrived at the Capitol Reef visitor center, we asked about what places we should visit. One place they highly recommended was the Gifford Homestead. It was once the home of a Mormon family in the early 20th century. But now…it is the home of sweet goodness. They sell locally baked fruit pies as well as homemade ice cream. Those are their specialities but they also have items made by artisans and craftsmen, souvenirs, jams and jellies. After eating our Red Rock Bakery sandwiches, my parents shared a pie (they are individual but pretty big for one person) and I had the vanilla ice cream. The ice cream was really good and you could really taste the difference. We saw some other people who bought pie and ice cream to have pie à la mode. This is a must if you are visiting Capitol Reef.
