Tales from my Travels: The 7th turned out to be a pretty dreary day. We had a quick lunch and then headed out to see some waterfalls that were close to the house. We were halfway there when it started pouring. Luckily, about 100 meters back there was a cement building where we huddled for refuge for several minutes. We finally decided to leave and get back to the house. I’ve never been wetter in my life; I was miserable. We stayed in the house for the rest of the day. The following day we chose to do something a little farther away in part because of the weather. My sister’s boyfriend suggested going to Lake James. We packed some sandwiches and drove down. Once there, we rented a couple of canoes and rowed along the lake. Never would have though rowing could be so tiring! After about an hour, we returned the canoes and got back in the car. My mom wanted to stop by an antique store that had peaked her interest on the way. It turned out there weren’t many antiques but the connecting store was a café. My sister’s boyfriend wanted a coffee and we soon followed suit. My parents shared a scone and a coffee while my sister and I had ordered gelato. I told  you that I love ice cream! I had the triple chocolate and the tahitian vanilla gelato. (Unlike Kilwin’s, the “small” here was a reasonable size.) The gelato was surprisingly good and very creamy. I guess I was so intent on eating it that I forgot to take a picture of it! If you fancy a gelato and are in the area, you have your place! They also offer several other baked goods and the like.
